Invocations

2024 - 2025

Over the past two years, I have been experimenting with pushing the boundaries of the photographic handprint by integrating traces of oil paint, ink, and writing onto the silver gelatin surface. In contrast with the technically controlled photographic process, this second phase is visceral and gestural.

This new collection of works draws inspiration from my experience growing up in an isolated Mediterranean landscape, as well as from Albert Camus’ autobiographical novels Helen’s Exile and The First Man. Fragments of those texts appear camouflaged within the work, interwoven with my own writing interventions on abstract geographies.

Language iterations serve as invocations of memories of a place that no longer exists or has yet to come into being, rooted in a landscape that is both familiar and uncharted.
