His last project was the construction of a 26 metres long ship that was to become a vegetarian commune with an allotment. Just some years after its completion in the early eighties, the ship was burnt in unknown circumstances. Only a few traces of the hull’s structure, metal parts of Francesc’s old workshop and random everyday objects survived the fire.&nbsp;The scattered fragments of glass, dried plants, ceramic vessels, ship parts, fossils, kitchen utensils, became the components of a series of temporary absurd sculptures. INSTITUTIONS &amp; PARTNERS The exhibition concept of Shipwreck Studies was developed alongside the curator Oriol Fontdevila during an artist residency (February - March 2023). As part of the exhibit&nbsp;After the Mediterranean, I worked together with the learning team at Hauser &amp; Wirth Menorca to produce a series of public workshops.(SEE MORE) The research of this project has been possible thanks to the funding of the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB). An untamed garden of fennel, asphodel, wild olive trees and nopal have grown in the vacant space. Act III. This activity open to the general public delved into those questions taking a practical and suggestive approach to archive making and narrating. This project is a result of a number of journeys and residencies - across the UK, France and Italy - that focuses on landscapes visited during the Grand Tour. Arcadia reassesses the Romantic view of the eighteenth century travellers in an attempt to understand how their perception and representation of the landscape has shaped the way in which tourists think of the visited landscape and relate to new territories. By establishing tangential correlations between historical gardens built in different temporal and geographical spaces, and connecting them with depictions in painting (JMW Turner) and literary traditions (Horace, Virgil), this investigation uses a non-linear narrative that connects past and present as a means to imagine how a future landscape may look like.&nbsp;Arcadia takes the shape of a long poem in the making that is composed of a number of cantos exploring different symbols and myths - the island, the fall, the cave, the sacred tree. With the collaboration of the Italian institutions FAI (Fondo dell’Ambiente Italiano),&nbsp;Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per l'Area Metropolitana di Roma&nbsp;e per la Provincia Selected Projects Public Events about Los Ausentes 2019 Exhibited in Peckham 24 (Rehearsing the Real,&nbsp;curated by Tom Lovelace, 2019) and OAS Art Museum of the Americas, Washington DC (Nuestros Ancestros,&nbsp;curated by Fabian Gonçalves &amp; Rafa Cruz,&nbsp;2023). Los Ausentes - The Absent Ones - echoes a table that was staged at the Venice Biennial of 1976, where Spain was unofficially invited to occupy the central pavilion. In the exhibition "Spain: Artistic Vanguard and Social Reality (1936 - 1976*)" the curators Valeriano Bozal and Tomàs Llorens set up an empty dinner scenario to honor the memory of missing artists who’d fled or were killed during, before, and after the Spanish Civil War. This project restages the dinner table as a homage to the tertulias - social gatherings held in cafés and public spaces, where people meet to exchange ideas and debate current affairs. The deliberate absence of chairs becomes an invitation to return to shared rituals of conversation and presence. Eliot’s abstractions of post-war London landscapes - The Wasteland - inspired a series of elegies sketched during long walks along the River Lea. The dormant weeds appearing in the still life diptych were collected from the riverbed by Arcadia street in Poplar, a century after East London was heavily bombed during the First World War. Brian Dillon describes fireweed (Rosebay willow herb) as a symbol of both regeneration and decay. [...] the plant is a marker of disruption and decay, and grows on charred ground after forest fires have destroyed all other vegetation. So attuned is it to such sites that if it does not appear in the wake of a fire it is sometimes sown as to start the process of organic regeneration - it is a plant of hope as much as ruination. Lethe / Aletheia (to conceal / to reveal)&nbsp;explores the symbol of the cave as a subliminal and meditative space between birth and disappearance. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s ‘Company’, the curatorial space of A Corner With was transformed into a darkroom, where large, abstract silver gelatin handprints of a cave become reminiscent of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice (The Metamorphoses). The images embody the psychological space of the characters from those stories who appear isolated from the world around them and seem to have lost touch with themselves. Becoming only a voice in the dark - one that reverberates, repeats, and yet does not seem to be able to articulate a message. The images were made in Greece, where one of the entrances to the Underworld is believed to be, and the location of some of the passages of Homer’s Odyssey. In Greek Mythology the cavern is a place of origin and disappearance, of revelation and forgetfulness; the liminal space between life and death.
