Grotto I
On myth and representation is an investigation on 18th and 19th century gardens as constructions that emulate elements of nature and often become a ground for representation of mythological creatures and tales through the landscape. Grottos, towers and other follies are built to transform the pastoral idea of nature to give it a more meaningful and magical dimension, bringing into question ideas on representation, authenticity and theatricality.

A Fortunate Isle
a folly is glass,
and bones
and a hank of weeds.
Is at once cheerful and morbid,
both an ornament for a gentelman’s grounds
and a mirror for his mind.
